Drunken South Tyneside woman arrested after swearing at police and 'asking them for a lift home' when lost on night out

A jobless South Tyneside woman has been handed a four-month conditional discharge for swearing at police after she got lost in Gateshead while on a night out.

Samantha Lawrenson, 30, of Coleridge Square, Hebburn, became separated from friends on Saturday, December 14, South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court was told.

Prosecutor Paul Anderson told the magistrates: “She gets herself lost in Gateshead while drunk.

“Police speak to her and she swears and asks them for a lift home. She continues in a similar fashion and gets locked up.”

David Forrester, defending, told the court: “She simply says she got lost from friends in a place that she didn’t know.”

As well as a four-month conditional discharge, the magistrates ordered that Lawrenson, who pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly during the incident, to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £21.
