A former X Factor contestant has ended up back in the dock – after being accused of breaching the terms of a suspended prison sentence.

Paige Flaherty, who auditioned for the hit talent show as part of the band Twisted in 2011, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday accused of failing to turn up for a required appointment with the probation service as part of the order.

Flaherty, from Fife Avenue, Jarrow, was told by a crown court judge she had been given her “final chance” to keep out of jail when he imposed the six-month term, suspended for two years, last December.

The sentence was imposed at Newcastle Crown Court after she admitted stealing a man’s iPhone, along with £200, from his mother’s purse, in June 2013.

She had previously been handed a suspended jail term after knocking down a pedestrian in a stolen car.

The 21-year-old is alleged to have failed to turn up for an appointment as part of the community requirements of the order on June 30.

The matter was adjourned for further investigations into the breach to be carried out.

Flaherty did not enter a plea and spoke only to confirm her name, age and address during the short hearing.

David Forrester, defending, asked for the case to be adjourned for “clarification” on the charge to be sought.

Mr Forrester said: “We are seeking clarification of the breach. Paige says that she didn’t know about the appointment she is said to have missed.”

The matter was adjourned until July 24.
