A former X Factor hopeful is facing jail after finally showing up for court – days after a warrant was issued for her arrest when she skipped a hearing over accusations she breached the terms of a suspended sentence.

Paige Flaherty, who auditioned for the hit talent show as part of the band Twisted in 2011, was due for trial at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court last week after denying failing to turn up for a required appointment with the probation service as part of the order.

But when she failed to attend the court date itself, she was convicted of the offence in her absence and a warrant without bail was issued by magistrates to finally bring her to court.

Christopher McKee, prosecuting, said at the hearing: “My application is for a warrant so she can be brought to court.”

The 21-year-old surrendered to the court, with the matter sent to Newcastle Crown Court for sentencing at a date to be fixed.

Flaherty, of Fife Avenue, Jarrow, was accused of failing to attend a probation hearing on June 5 of this year.

She was handed the prison sentence – suspended for 24 months – at Newcastle Crown Court last December for an offence of theft – just the latest crime on her record

In April 2013 she was given a six-month jail sentence – suspended for 18 months – after ploughing into a pedestrian in her bandmate’s Mini.
