Gang of up to 30 teenagers pelt South Shields Subway shop with eggs leaving staff fearing for their safety

The yobs had already damaged the shutter of Subway in Prince Edward Road early last week before a run trouble started on the evening of Friday, September 25.
Now Northumbria Police are investigating the incidents, which have seen the staff sworn at, threatened and the shop pelted with eggs a workers prepared to close up for the night.

Hide AdThe group is aged around 13 or 14 and made up of girls and boys, including some on bikes, and while the attacks have left a mess inside the shop, the teenagers have also threatened to round on staff as they leave the premises for home.
Now the business has made changes to help keep its workers safe, with taxis being called to ensure they can leave the Nook shop safely.
Manager Angela Thompson said: “It’s really intimidating and people might say it's only eggs, but the fact is there are so many of them.
"They are also breaking the social distance rules and we are also concerned they are all together when they shouldn’t be.

Hide Ad"We’re going to speak to a shop where we think they’re buying the eggs, but if it wasn’t eggs it would be stones or bricks.
"I think they should think about if this was their mam or sister or brother or someone else they knew, how would they feel?
"I think it’s because there’s a big gang of them, they push each other on.
"After we were closed by the coronavirus and the lockdown, we’re trying to make it work.

Hide Ad"We've had lots of support from people and it’s such a nice place to be, the Nook, so it’s a shame it’s happening.”
A police spokesperson confirmed its officers received a report of teenager behaving antisocially at 9pm on Saturday, September 26.
They added: “It was reported that a group had thrown eggs at a premises and used threatening language while staff were closing the shop. Nobody was injured.
“This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and those found to have been involved will be dealt with appropriately.”
