Knife and hammer-wielding men hunted after armed raid at South Shields bookmakers

TWO men are being hunted after a raid at a South Shields bookmakers.

It happened just after 9.05pm, on Saturday, March 7, when police received a report of the robbery at Chisholm Bookmakers, in Fielding Court, South Shields.

Two men, both wearing decorating paper suits and armed with weapons, entered the store.

One was wearing a blue suit was armed with a knife while the other, who was wearing a white suit, was carrying a hammer.

They demanded cash which they made off with in the direction of Biddick Hall School.

No-one was injured as a result of the incident.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Constable Craig Huitson said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to trace the two men involved in this incident.

“They were both distinctively dressed in decorating suits which may have attracted people’s attention in the area.

“I’d urge anyone who thinks they may have seen them to come forward.

“We have officers in the area to provide reassurance for residents.

“Anyone with concerns or information should talk to them.”
