A man has admitted trying to throw a Northumbria Police officer off a bridge.
Michael Walker attempted to hurl Richard Wilkinson from a footbridge over the A1 in Newcastle last November.
The 28-year-old was initially accused of attempted murder but the charge was dropped after he pleaded guilty to attempting to cause grievious bodily harm with intent.
Walker, of Cornhill, West Denton, Newcastle, will be sentenced next month and has been warned he is facing a long prison sentence.
Judge Paul Sloan QC told him: "You will appreciate that a substantial custodial sentence is inevitable in the circumstances of this case."
Walker, who is remanded in custody, has also admitted assaulting another police officer and a woman.
