Man arrested after knife-point robbery at South Tyneside barber shop


A man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery after barber shop staff were threatened with a knife.

The robbery happened at Scotty’s Barber Shop in Green Lane, South Shields at 4.25pm, today.

A man threatened staff with a knife before making his escape.

No one was injured.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently in police custody.

Inspector Steve Appleton said: “We know incidents such as this cause concern to the local community and I’d like to reassure people that extra officers will remain in the area. “I’d ask anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help in our enquiries to come forward and get in contact.”
