Man arrested after stabbing in South Shields

A MAN has been arrested and another is in hospital after a stabbing in a South Shields street.

Police were called to an address in River Drive, in the town centre, at 6.12pm yesterday after reports that a man had been stabbed.

The 60-year-old man was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where he is receiving treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested and is helping police with their enquiries.

It is believed the two men were known to each other.

Extra patrols are taking place to reassure residents in the area and to gather information.
