Man arrested in connection with alleged assault on Chichester Road

A man was arrested following reports of an assault on Chichester Road in South Shields.

Shortly after 8pm on Sunday, December 22, Northumbria Police received a report of an assault taking place on the road.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Officers attended where it was reported that a man had been struck on the head by another man.

“The suspect has then left the scene.”

The 41-year-old man, who was injured was taken to South Tyneside District Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We sent one paramedic ambulance and a doctor.”

Police confirmed that he has been discharged.

A 52-year-old man was arrested by officers in connection with the incident. He has been released under investigation.
