A man has appeared in court accused of a string of historic sex offences.
Raymond Craig is charged with seven counts of indecent assault on a girl aged under 16 at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
The offences are said to have taken place in South Tyneside between September 30 1991 and June 30 1992.
The 59-year-old denied all matters when he appeared at court via videolink from Durham prison, where he is currently serving a prison sentence.
Keith Laidlaw, prosecuting, said: “The crown would say the case should go to the crown court.”
Gareth Cracknell, chairman of the bench, declined jurisdiction and sent all matters to Newcastle Crown Court for trial.
An initial hearing will be held at Newcastle Crown Court on Tuesday, July 21.
