A man accused of sparking a safety scare at a South Tyneside supermarket has been remanded in custody.
The Morrisons store, in Viking Precinct, Jarrow, was evacuated after a man was alleged to have picked up a knife and waved it at staff and customers at about 6pm on Tuesday.
Lee Wilson appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with using threatening or unlawful behaviour towards others at the store.
The 30-year-old denied the offence and the matter was sent for trial at Newcastle Crown Court on August 5.
Wilson, of Medway, Jarrow, was remanded in custody until then.
