Man in court over samurai sword raid


A MAN is due to appear in court after a samurai sword shop raid in South Tyneside.

A man armed with the weapon went into the Nisa shop in Whiteleas Way, South Shields, at 9.42am on Saturday.

He demanded cash but left when staff refused.

Lee Amess, 20, of Renoir Gardens, South Shields, has been charged with robbery and possessing an offensive weapon.

He is due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court this morning.
