Man in eye hospital after face-spray attack

A MAN was sprayed in the face with a noxious substances in a street attack.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident involving two men in Clyde Avenue, Hebburn, at 2pm yesterday.

Officers said there was an altercation between two men inside a nearby house.

After this a 21-year-old man was attacked outside and sprayed in the face with a noxious substance.

He was taken to South Tyneside General Hospital and later transferred to the Sunderland Eye Hospital where he is receiving treatment, his condition is described as stable.

Police believe that both men are known to each other.

A police spokesman said: “There were a large number of people in the area when the incident took place and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
