A THIEF who stole a packet of razor blades from a South Tyneside store has been jailed for two weeks.

Gavin Thomas snatched the packet of 10 Gillette Fusion razors - valued at £22 - from the Wilko store in Bede Precinct, Jarrow, on November 11.

The 29-year-old admitted the theft when he appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He also asked for a second theft, of a bottle of vodka worth £18.50 from Asda, in Station Road, Hebburn on August 15, to be taken into consideration.

The court heard Thomas, of Whitehead Street, South Shields, is currently remanded in custody after being accused of an attempted burglary.

Charlton Carr, defending, said: “He has been in custody since Boxing Day. As a result there isn’t a lot you can do with him today.”

District Judge Helen Cousins gave Thomas a 14-day jail sentence and ordered him to pay compensation of £22 to Wilko and £18.50 to Asda for the thefts.
