A VIETNAMESE man accused of being behind the biggest cannabis farm found in South Tyneside has been remanded in custody.
Doung Van Nguyen was arrested on Thursday morning after police raided a house in Sunderland Road, South Shields.
The 19-year-old – who speaks no English – was found inside the three-storey Harton Village house, where more than 400 plants – worth at least £500,000 – were growing.
He appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday, facing a charge of producing the Class B drug.
Kayleigh Helens, defending, told magistrates the charge had been explained to her client after his arrest but a translator would be needed for the case to progress further.
