A MAN has been remanded in custody after attacking his ex-partner while on bail accused of an earlier assault against her.

Mark Elliot, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault – one against his former girlfriend and another against another female who was with her – at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard the 25-year-old spotted his ex-partner while she was at shops in Finchale Road, Hebburn, at 7.50pm on Saturday.

He denies a charge of assault against her on January 2 and another of threatening to destroy property belonging to her on Boxing Day, and is awaiting trial for those matters.

Glenda Beck, prosecuting, said: “The victim and another female were walking in Finchale Road when they saw the defendant standing in a doorway. He said he wanted to talk and she said ‘no’.

“He punched her in the face and turned to the other female who tried to assist, and punched her in the head, saying ‘I’m going to kill you’.”

Police were called and Elliot was arrested.

His ex-partner was left shaken, while the other injured party had a damaged lip.

CCTV was viewed by police which confirmed the assault.

Mrs Beck called for Elliot to be remanded in custody.

Magistrates agreed that Elliot should be remanded in custody until a trial date is set.

He will appear again at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on February 3.
