Man who stole food worth £3.50 from Shields store left with court bill of £175

A THIEF who stole food worth £3.50 from a South Tyneside store ended up with a hefty court bill of £175.

Andrew Monarch snatched yoghurt and salami from Asda, in Coronation Street, South Shields, on December 29 of last year.

The 42-year-old admitted a charge of theft when he appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

Monarch, of Roseberry Road, in Redcar, was fined £70 and ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.
