A vandal wrecked a pal’s car after a furious row over missing money.

Kevin Dunn caused £1,500 worth of damage to the Ford Focus by smashing the windscreen and mirrors and gouging at the paint work.

A member of the public who was watching described this as pure vandalism which shocked those who saw what was happening.

Judge Penny Moreland

Newcastle Crown Court heard one witness to the damage attack in January, while the shocked owner was sitting inside the vehicle, said it was “pure vandalism”.

Dunn, of Galsworthy Road, South Shields, admitted causing criminal damage.

Judge Penny Moreland sentenced the 25-year-old to nine weeks behind bars, which resulted in his immediate release after being held in custody since the offence.

Judge Moreland said: “A member of the public who was watching described this as pure vandalism which shocked those who saw what was happening.

“It was great force you used. You almost destroyed the vehicle in a short time.

“Losing your temper in that way is unacceptable.”

Glen Gatland, defending, said Dunn fell out with the car owner when he asked him for a headache tablet but was given sleeping pills instead.

Mr Gatland said: “He fell asleep and £540 of his cash was removed from him.

“That is what he says caused the argument.

“He doesn’t know who removed the £540, but he believed the friend knew who was responsible.

“That is what caused him to be extremely angry with is former friend.”
