Men remanded by court after facing charges following armed robbery in South Shields

Two men will appear before a crown court charged with robbery following an incident where men in a car were threatened with knives.

One victim ran off, while the other had his phone snatched before the attackers fled.

Northumbria Police made two arrests soon after and has said all the men are known to each other.

Jason Scanlon, 38, of Cook Close, has since appeared before the town’s magistrates court charged with robbery and possessing pointed article.

Stephen Nelson, 18, of Dock Street, also in South Shields, has been charged with robbery, attempted robbery and possessing pointed article.

No pleas were entered and both were remanded in custody until Thursday, February 25, when they will both appear before Newcastle Crown Court.
