‘No foul play’ – police release man arrested on suspicion of murder after death of South Shields woman

A MAN arrested after the death of a woman in South Shields today has been released after police ruled out any suspicion of foul play.

Police were called to a house in Devonshire Street, close to Tyne Dock, shortly after 5am, after ambulance crews raised the alarm.

A 34-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A man, who was known to the deceased, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

But police revealed this evening that a post-mortem examination and a detailed investigation made into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death had revealed no evidence of any third party involvement.

The 34-year-old man who was arrested has been released without charge.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
