A THIEF filled his car up with petrol six times at a South Tyneside garage and drove off with out paying.
Dale Richardson covered his registration with a false plate when stealing fuel from Jarrow’s Morrisons in October and November last year.
The 33-year-old was eventually caught after being identified from CCTV footage.
Richardson pleaded guilty to three counts of bilking at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court and asked the court to take three more offences into consideration.
John McGlone, prosecuting, said: “He was seen pulling into Morrisons petrol station in a silver Honda, which was found to have a false number plate.
“He filled the tank with £68 of petrol and drove off. He was on CCTV doing the same thing five more times.
“The total amount of petrol he stole was £410.”
Callum Terry, defending, said: “Last year, his relationship broke down. He lost contact with his child for a while and eventually lost his job.
“As a result, his mental health deteriorated and these thefts are a hangover from that. He didn’t have any money to get around.”
Magistrates gave Richardson, of Ash Crescent, Seaham, a 24-month conditional discharge.
Chairman of the bench Neil Woodward said: “There is evidence of pre-planning here and it was a spree.”
