Police appeal after man assaulted in Jarrow street


POLICE have appealed for witnesses to a daylight assault which left a man needing hospital treatment.

It happened at 12.45pm, on Friday in Edinburgh Road, Jarrow.

The 49-year-old victim was approached by two men, and an argument broke out.

He was assaulted, and suffered head and facial injuries which required a visit to hospital.

The victim was discharged after treatment.

Police arrested two men, aged 22 and 37, in connection with the incident.

They have both been bailed pending further inquiries, and police are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information.
