Police arrest man after shop theft

A MAN has been arrested after cash was stolen from a South Tyneside shop.

Police were called to the One Stop Shop in Whiteleas Way, South Shields, just after 7.20am yesterday.

A man had jumped over the counter and taken cash from the till before making his escape.

Staff in the shop were left shaken, but uninjured.

A 29-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of burglary and is helping police with inquiries.

Police inquiries into the incident are continuing.

The suspect is described as wearing a dark-coloured hooded top, with blue stripes down the arms and around the middle section, dark tracksuit bottoms, with stripes down the legs, and black Nike trainers with a white tick.
