Shortly before 1.30am today (Wednesday, December 2) officers were called to A & P Tyne, off Wagonway Road, following a report of a burglary.
It was reported that offenders had gained access to a large warehouse and were still believed to be at the scene.
The police helicopter was also called to the incident.

But their escape proved short-lived as officers quickly caught up with the suspects, one of whom was found to be in possession of a lock knife and a suspected air weapon.
Two men – aged 34 and 18 – were arrested on suspicion of burglary and currently remain in police custody.
Chief Inspector Paul Walters has heaped praise on all the officers involved, including the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and the Force’s Dog Section who helped successfully track and detain the suspects.

“That meant any intruders had nowhere to hide, and while two suspects tried to make off over a fence, our officers were more than up to that challenge.
“I’d like to thank everyone who attended this incident, including our colleagues at NPAS and within our Operations Department. It was a real team effort that has resulted in two men being brought into custody.
“I hope this swift and decisive action offers reassurance to our businesses in the region – we will use every tactic at our disposal to respond to any reported break-ins and ultimately ensure the people believed to be responsible are arrested and ultimately brought to justice.”
