A senior police officer who was dismissed over misconduct allegations has had the decision overturned by a High Court judge.
Chief inspector Mark Anastasi, who started his career in South Tyneside, was sacked from Northumbria Police on May 22, last year, following a misconduct hearing.
A Police Appeal Tribunal subsequently confirmed the decision of the hearing.
However, the 48-year-old took his case to the High Court in Leeds to challenge the decision.
The courts found the decisions of the misconduct hearing and the police appeals tribunal should be quashed due to procedural irregularities.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “On Monday September 14, the High Court sitting in Leeds has now instructed that a new Misconduct Hearing should be held.
“The date for the new Misconduct Hearing is yet to be decided.”
