Sex attacker hunted after woman accosted in Jarrow

A sex attacker who grabbed a woman in a Jarrow street is today being hunted by police.

The crime happened at 11.55pm yesterday in Milton Street, when a man jumped out at the 49-year-old victim and sexually assaulted her.

She managed to break free, and the attacker ran off towards the town centre.

The woman was shocked and distressed by the incident, but otherwise uninjured.

The offender was aged 20 to 30, about 5ft 6in tall, of slight to medium build, with a local accent.

Police are carrying out inquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.

Officers are treating this as an isolated incident.
