Sex attacker hunted after woman assaulted in South Tyneside underpass

Police are hunting a sex attacker after a teenager was assaulted in an underpass in South Tyneside.

The 19-year-old victim was attacked around 8.20pm on Sunday October 25 as she walked through an underpass on the John Reid Road, South Shields.

A man grabbed her top, however, she managed to run away.

The victim was unhurt but shaken by her ordeal.

Her attacker is described as white, aged 25 to 30 years old, stocky, 5ft 8ins, with short dark hair with a fringe.

He was wearing a black high necked top which he had pulled over his face, black tracksuit bottoms possibly with white stripes. He spoke with a local accent.

Officers are carrying out regular patrols in the area and inquiries are ongoing.
