Sneak thief steals cash in house burglary

A SNEAK thief who stole hundreds of pounds from a South Tyneside house is being hunted by police.

Officers are appealing for information after a burglary at a house in Nicholas Avenue, Whitburn.

A thief sneaked into the house at 8.50am yesterday and stole a purse containing hundreds of pounds before being disturbed by the occupant and fleeing.

The intruder was about 6ft tall, in his late 30s, and of slim build. He had dark brown hair and was wearing dark overalls.

Inquiries are ongoing into the incident, and police are urging anyone who was in the area and who saw anything suspicious to contact them on 101, ext 69191.

Northumbria Police is currently running Operation Soundwave, aimed at tackling crimes such as burglary.

As part of the initiative, residents are being reminded to ensure doors and windows are locked, even when they’re inside the house.
