Jamie Seales, 31, of King George Road, South Shields, took part in an assault at the front of Roxanne’s on Sunday, August 4, a court heard.

He was one of several attackers who left his victim with bleeding on the brain, broken ribs and a perforated ear.

Soon after, Seales was seen at the rear of the Ocean Road club, in South Shields, in a car he had stolen two months earlier.

At South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, it was said he then fled the scene on foot.

Seales has now been jailed for 10 weeks for the assault and handed a four-week concurrent sentence for taking the Kia Sportage without consent.

His sentence will run consecutively to an eight-month jail term he is currently serving for affray and for which he could have been released in May.

Prosecutor Lesley Burgess said: “A vehicle is stolen from outside a property in June.

“Police then receive a report of an assault on August 4 at the rear of Roxanne’s nightclub.

“A short time later the defendant went back to the rear of the club. He runs away.

“The vehicle that he had been seen in after the attack was the silver car stolen in June.”

She added: “There were a lot of injuries sustained including broken ribs. There was also bleeding on the brain and a perforated ear drum.

“The crown have to concede that the defendant didn’t do all the injuries. A security guard may also have pushed him.

“There was certainly a stamping on the head that the crown say was the defendant. The victim was standing alone.”

Via video link, Seales pleaded guilty to the charges and also to driving the 2001-registration Kia motor in Beach Road, South Shields, on the same day without a licence and without insurance.

Kevin Smallcombe, defending, said: “He accepts that he was one of the people involved. The injuries are not fully attributable to him.

“He shouldn’t have got involved in this incident in the first place. There were clearly other people involved.

“He’s in a stable and loving relationship.”

District Judge Kathryn Meek told Seales: “It was an appalling act of violence on your behalf.

“It merits an immediate custodial sentence, there’s no doubt about that in my mind.

“I can’t move away from the serious nature of this offence, whether you were responsible for the individual injuries or not.”

No separate penalty were imposed on the two driving charges.

Seales, who the court heard had eight penalty points on his licence, was also banned from driving for 57 weeks.
