South Shields man appears in court charged with attempted murder

A South Tyneside man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder.

Karl Molyneaux, of Eglesfield Road, South Shields, is alleged to have committed the offence at a property in South Shields on Wednesday night.

Molyneaux, 52, did not enter a plea and his solicitor David Forrester made no application for bail at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

Police were called following a report of an assault at a property in South Shields shortly before 8.30pm on March 11.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “It had been reported that a 38-year-old woman had sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing.

“The victim was taken to hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

“Molyneaux was arrested and subsequently charged.”

A spokesperson from North East Ambulance Service said: “With support from the police we attended with two resources and took one patient to hospital.”

Molyneaux was remanded in custody to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Tuesday, April 14.
