A MAN facing an assault charge has been remanded in custody.

Dean Tweedie was accused of maliciously wounding Janice Irving with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm when he appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

The offence is alleged to have taken place in South Shields on Sunday, January 11.

No plea was entered to the charge and the case was committed to Newcastle Crown Court, for an initial hearing on January 26.

The 29-year-old, of Marshall Wallis Road, South Shields, was remanded in custody until then.
