South Shields man will stand trial later this year charged with attempted murder

Karl Molyneaux is accused of attacking a woman in a property in South Shields last month.

The 52-year-old, of Eglesfield Road in the town, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court this morning, via video link to prison, accused of attempted murder.

He was not asked to enter a plea to the charge, but Judge Paul Sloan has listed the case for trial, which is due to start on Wednesday, September 2.

Police had been called following a report of an assault at a property in South Shields shortly before 8.30pm on Wednesday, March 11.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said at the time: “It had been reported that a 38-year-old woman had sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing.

“The victim was taken to hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

“Molyneaux was arrested and subsequently charged.”
