South Tyneside man charged with string of fraud charges against seven householders

A South Tyneside man is set to stand trial on a string a fraud and dishonesty charges against seven people in relation to building work in the borough and beyond three years ago.

Paul Brittan, 33, of Birch Street, Jarrow, faces 20 charges of committing fraud by false representation and five charges of dishonestly failing to disclose information to make a gain.

The court was told that 21 of the alleged offences happened against six householders in South Tyneside and four are alleged to have been against one Gateshead householder.

They are all alleged to have happened between January and August 2017.

Brittan pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

The case was adjourned and will next be heard at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday, March 23.

He was granted unconditional bail by the magistrates until his next court appearance.
