A SOUTH Tyneside relative is due to appear in court on Monday charged with the murders of a married couple.
Martin Ruddy, 28, has been charged with two counts of murder and is due to appear before North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
It follows the deaths of Eric Ruddy, 64, and his 54-year-old wife Carol, who died at their home in Bentinck Street, Elswick, Newcastle, on Friday.
Officers were called to a house in Bentinck Street, Elswick, shortly before 10.30pm on Friday night after a report from the ambulance service of three injured people.
A 64-year-old man and 54-year-old woman were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where they were later pronounced dead.
A 28-year-old man, who was also taken to hospital with less serious injuries, was arrested in connection with the incident.
