A man remains in a ‘stable’ condition in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a collision with a car in South Shields.
The incident took place at about 7.10pm in Laygate.
A 19-year-old was later arrested and remains under investigation.
Northumbria Police said: “Around 7.10pm on 24 May police received a report of a vehicle colliding with a pedestrian in Laygate, South Shields. One man was seriously injured whose condition is now described as stable.
“One man aged 19 is now under investigation.”
Western Approach was closed following the incident, with diversions put in place for drivers.
