A thief who carried out two shop raids in the same day saw her crimes uncovered – after stashing stolen jewellery in her bra.
Lisa Scott, 27, stole £58 worth of cosmetics from Boots, in King Street, South Shields, before grabbing jewellery valued at £31 from Asda, in Coronation Street in the town.
Security alarms sounded after she exited Boots without paying for her goods and she was spotted removing the price tag from the supermarket jewellery by staff who called in police.
She was found in possession of the £89 haul of items and admitted two theft charges when she appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that Scott, of Dean Road, South Shields, has no previous convictions – and she was given a conditional discharge by magistrates her viewed her actions as an ‘isolated incident’.
Glenda Beck, prosecuting, said: “On September 12, she was seen to walk out of the Boots store without paying for the cosmetic goods, activating the store security barrier.
“When in Asda, she placed the jewellery under the front of her top. She was found in possession of the cosmetics and she took the jewellery from under her bra.”
Ian Haq, prosecuting, said: “She is before the courts for the first time. She was fully compliant with the police and made admissions at the earliest opportunity. All of the goods were recovered.”
John Lee, chairman of the magistrates, said: “We are taking the view this was an isolated incident. Don’t come back before the courts again – don’t shoplift.”
Scott was given a 12-month conditional discharge and must pay a criminal courts charge of £150, prosecution costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge.
