Two appear in court over allegation urine was thrown over police officers in South Shields

Two men have appeared in court in South Tyneside on charges of assaulting police by throwing urine over them.

Peter Barclay, of Tees Court, off Boldon Lane, South Shields, admitted carrying out the offence against one officer on Wednesday, February 19, when he appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates.

He denied the same charge against a second officer on the same date, also in Beach Road, South Shields, and of being involved in disorderly behaviour.

Co-accused Mark Fletcher, 36, of Laygate, South Shields, pleaded not guilty to assaulting the second officer and to a charge of disorderly behaviour.

Both men will stand trial on Thursday, June 11, at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

They were granted bail on condition they reside at the addresses given to the court, enter Beach Road once only to collect personal belongings from a property, and do not associate with one another until the trial.
