UPDATE: Number of cars damaged in South Shields street rises to 15

POLICE are continuing to appeal for witnesses after 15 cars were damaged in a South Tyneside street.

The cars were scratched while they were parked in Nora Street, South Shields.

It happened overnight between Saturday and Sunday.

Officers are carrying out inquiries to identify those responsible and asking anyone with information to come forward.

Chief Inspector Sarah Pitt, of South Tyneside Area Command, said: “Mindless vandalism such as this might seem like a bit of fun to those doing it but it causes a considerable amount of inconvenience to those affected.

“Extra officers will be in the area providing reassurance to residents and acting as deterrent for this sort of behaviour.

“If anyone has any information or saw anything out of the ordinary in the street overnight on from Saturday into Sunday, we’d urge them to get in contact.”
