Whitburn man accused of brace of burglaries kept in custody after court date

A MAN accused of carrying out two burglaries on the same day in South Tyneside has appeared in court.

Stuart Taylor was charged with two counts of burglary from a dwelling at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court today.

The offences are alleged to have occured in Rupert Street and Front Street, both in Whitburn, on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old entered no pleas during the hearing.

Magistrates sent the case to Newcastle Crown Court for an initial hearing on Thursday, June 18.

Taylor, of Cedar Grove, Whitburn, was remanded in custody until then.

The charge comes as part of Operation Strongbow - a Northumbria Police initiative tackling distraction burglaries and bogus callers.
