Workers threatened with knife in South Tyneside shop raid

STAFF were threatened with a knife during an attempted robbery at a South Tyneside newsagent.

A man entered Simonside News in Stanhope Road at 9.32am yesterday and threatened staff but left empty-handed.

He made off with two other men who remained outside.

No one was injured during the incident, but staff were shocked.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently in custody.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and anyone who was in the area who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact them.
