Wagner's third-placed side were beaten 4-0 at Ashton Gate last night.

And Championship leaders Newcastle United, six points ahead of Huddersfield, could capitalise on the result against Birmingham City at St Andrew's this afternoon.

"Bristol City were strong and we under-performed," said Wagner, whose side will again have a game in hand on the top two teams after today.

"I have never spoken about automatic promotion, and we now need to use the international break to refresh and respond to this result.

"We are in a very good position with nine games to go and we have been through too much together as a group for me to question my players."

Huddersfield lost Jonathan Hogg to a serious neck injury after he collided with team-mate Mark Hudson.

Second-placed Brighton and Hove Albion take on Leeds United at Elland Road this evening.
