Newcastle are one of the few Premier league clubs to have signed anyone today, having confirmed a loan move for Roma striker Seydou Doumbia.

Their No 1 target has been Berahino, but Baggies assistant manager Dave Kemp admitted he was unlikely to leave.

Kemp said: “He’s still here, he’s been in this morning.

“He’s got a bit of a knock but he’s in the squad for tomorrow’s game (against Swansea). I’m expecting him to be here.”

Newcastle had also been linked heavily with their former player Jose Enrique, as they looked to sign the left-back until the end of the season.

But it seems the defender will now stay at Liverpool, where has six months left on his contract.

Over on Wearside, Sunderland were dealt a blow when Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said target Mathieu Debuchy was not likely to leave the club on a permanent deal today.

The Frenchman said: "Debuchy [leaving] is a possibility.

"At the moment it doesn't look likely but it is still a possibility.

"Yes [it will be a loan] because it’s impossible to conclude a permanent move now."

The right-back, who has also been linked with a move to Aston Villa, has since been linked with a shock move to Manchester United but is more likely to end up at Bordeaux.

Sunderland were also linked with Aston Villa defender Micah Richards today, but boss Remi Garde has insisted Richards is going nowhere despite the speculation.

He said: "We have got a small squad and Micah is a player who will play for sure for the rest of the season."

It could be that the only movement at the Stadium of Light today is the departure of Steven Fletcher to Marseille.

Elsewhere, Hartlepool United have confirmed the signing of Luke James, who comes back to Victoria Park on loan from Peterborough until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of this season on loan at Bradford City but has now penned a deal that will see him stay on loan at The Vic until the end of the campaign.

The striker came through the ranks at Pools and scored 22 goals in 100 appearances during his first spell before moving to the ABAX stadium in September 2014, where he made 34

appearances in all competitions last season.

James will wear his old number 33 shirt and will go straight into contention for Saturday's game against Notts County.
