Death of man found in wheelie bin treated as murder

Police are officially treating the death of a man whose body was found in a wheelie bin in a North East street as murder.

At around 3pm on Wednesday, police received information regarding a possible body in a back lane in Northbourne Street, Gateshead.

He has now been identified as Craig Eade, 23, of Gateshead, and specialist officers are supporting his family.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish how Craig died but after a post-mortem examination, his death is now being treated as murder.

A 36-year-old man this evening remains in police custody after being arrested in connection with the offence.

A cordon remains in place at the scene and extra officers are on patrol in the area to carry out enquiries and speak to any concerned members of the public.
