Dicksons lands massive deals to supply retail giants with its famous pies and pastries

Famous South Shields food firm Dicksons has landed two massive deals which will provide job security for its 300 workers.

The family business has clinched two contracts to supply two retail giants.

The orders will provide further job security for 300 people at the Dicksons Pork Butchers production operation on the Middlefields Industrial Estate, South Shields, and shops all over the region.

The firm’s products will be sold in 114 Co-op stores and 36 Iceland outlets throughout the North East.

The move will see the Co-op and Iceland selling a selection of the firm’s pies and pastries – following in the footsteps of Sainsbury, Asda, Morrisons and Tesco.

The move is part of the company’s ‘ambitious’ wholesale expansion plans whilst also continuing to expand its own regional retail chain.

“We are delighted to be working with two well regarded names like the Co-op and Iceland and are confident that the new deals will be the start of mutually, beneficial long-term relationships which will help us to grow the availability of our products across the North East and beyond.”

Dicksons, established in 1953, employs more than 300 staff across its chain of retail shops, head office and production facility – selling a range of meat products, including freshly-cooked deli meats, sausages, bacon, pies, and a selection of hot and cold food on the go.

It is believed the growing wholesale demand for Dicksons fresh and frozen products follows an investment by the company in improving its packaging in a bid to boost the visibility of products, whilst extending their shelf life

MrHayman added: “The new packaging of our pie range has been very well-received by Dicksons’ customers and our retail partners. Despite representing a significant investment for the business, we believe it is important that the packaging reflects the high quality of our products; without a doubt the new-style packaging has been instrumental in opening up new wholesale opportunities for us.

“We are delighted that the investment we have made in both packaging and our production facilities is beginning to offer the longer-term returns for our wholesale division as planned.”
