Over the years, hundreds of people will have performed on stage (and busied themselves behind it) when the South Shields Amateur Operatic Society put on one of its lavish musical shows.

Many more will have watched as these talented amateurs, some of whom went on to become professionals, trod the boards both here on South Tyneside and at the Sunderland Empire.
