Over the years, hundreds of people will have performed on stage (and busied themselves behind it) when the South Shields Amateur Operatic Society put on one of its lavish musical shows.

Do you know anyone in this picture of South Shields Amateur Operatic Society? This production seems to have been set in Nazi Germany.

Many more will have watched as these talented amateurs, some of whom went on to become professionals, trod the boards both here on South Tyneside and at the Sunderland Empire.

In December 1985, the South Shields Amateur Operatic Society presented an hour of family carols at St Paul and St John's United Reformed Church, South Shields, in aid of Heart Call. The concert raised more than £250.
