A fitness expert’s dream of owning her own gym has finally become a reality – after two decades.

Since the age of 18, Donna Kerr-Foley set her heart on one day having the keys to her own gym, but life and other obstacles got in her way.

But the owner of the No Lippy fitness brand never gave up hope and this week and officially opened the door to her new gym – No Lippy Health and Fitness.

The venue is the former Club Zest gym above Mambo II in Prince Consort Road, Hebburn, where the mum-of-two was once a training mentor.

Donna said: “It has been such a long process. I used to look at gym equipment in catalogues and pick out the kind of equipment I would have in it and the kind of classes I would have.

“I always knew I would one day have my own gym, so I wanted to be in a position that if somewhere did come up I could go for it.

There has been a lot of obstacles but they say things happen for a reason.

“I actually approached the owner of Club Zest, who agreed to sell it to me and it was like everything fell into place.

“Over the years there has been a lot of obstacles in my way which stopped me from having my own gym, but they always say things happen for a reason.

“Launching the new gym and fitness studio was quite emotional. So many people have supported me. It was overwhelming.”

Donna launched her No Lippy Boot Camp six years ago – just four weeks after giving birth to her second son.

She went on to franchise the idea – with trainers now delivering her style of fitness workouts across the country.

However, it wasn’t until 2014 that her business empire really took off when she clinched a £50,000 investment on TV’s Dragons’ Den for a portable exercise mat she had developed.

Her pitch attracted the cash from leading businesswomen Deborah Meaden and Kelly Hoppen.

Mrs Kerr-Foley’s No Lippy Boot Camp was the Gazette’s Local Business Accelerators competition winner in 2012. It also won a national award for Best Activity Provider.

Last year, Donna became the first instructor in the North East to bring the new fitness craze Ripafit to the region after being chosen from hundreds of others to trial it in the region.

There are more than 75 classes a week at the new gym with sessions on a morning, lunchtime, afternoon and evenings. There is also a creche facility with qualified childminders available at certain times of the day.
