The in-form Newcastle United winger has missed out on a spot on the plane despite his late call-up to the squad.

But it hasn’t been enough to earn him a place in the final squad, with Hodgson also dropping Leicester City’s Danny Drinkwater.

Former Sunderland star Jordan Henderson is included in the squad, however.

Full squad: Hart, Forster, Heaton, Walker, Clyne, Rose, Bertrand, Cahill, Smalling, Stones, Dier, Wilshere, Barkley, Alli, Henderson, Milner, Sterling, Lallana, Kane, Rooney, Vardy, Sturridge, Rashford.

And in a further blow to Newcastle, defender Paul Dummett missed out on a Wales call-up after he was cut from Chris Coleman’s final squad.
