Drunk hit with £275 court bill after squaring up to police

A rowdy drinker who squared up to police after being turfed out of a South Tyneside pub has been served up a hefty court bill.

Police were called to the Hedworth Hall at 11.20pm on Saturday, December 5 after staff had to escort Robert Storey off the premises for disruptive behaviour – only for him to try to return minutes later.

Glenda Beck, prosecuting, said: “He swore at police and a female refused to move out of the way of officers as they approached him.

“When they moved her, Storey said ‘don’t you fight lads’ and clenched his fists.

“He continued to be abusive and was arrested.”

Laura Johnson, defending, said the 25-year-old had ‘far too much too drink’ on the night.

Storey, of Wenlock Place, South Shields, admitted being drunk and disorderly in a public place at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court. He was fined £170 and must pay court costs of
£85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
