College open days will point students in right direction

SOUTH Tyneside College is throwing open its doors to boost local educational and training opportunities.

Lecturers and support staff are preparing for the start of the new academic year next month by staging course information days at the Westoe campus in St George’s Avenue, South Shields.

The days will feature guidance on dozens of academic and vocational courses, including apprenticeships, foundation degrees, HNCs, BTECs and City and Guild diplomas.

Those applying for apprenticeships can meet the college apprenticeship team to discuss what options are open to them.

Specialists from the college’s world-renowned South Shields Marine School will also be available to advise those considering a career at sea.

Alison Maynard, principal of South Tyneside Professional and Vocational College, said: “There is a wealth of opportunity to gain advice on our extensive range of courses for those seeking to advance their education and career prospects.

“Our educational specialists will be available to speak to anyone interested in finding out what is available to them and what their best options are.

“The college runs fantastic courses in many different subjects, leading to a wide variety of qualifications – there really is something for almost everybody.

“The new academic year is fast approaching and I would encourage those thinking of furthering their education to find out exactly what is available and to see for themselves what we are all about.”

Other academic areas which will be covered in the information days range from beauty therapy to health, care and fitness to creative media production.

Guidance will also include information on the relevant qualifications needed to access each course, plus funding options.

The information days will take place throughout today, August 21 and 22 and between August 26 and September 12.
