A college boss has told of her pride about being involved in an inspirational awards ceremony in South Tyneside.
The Best of South Tyneside Awards will be taking place later this month to honour the borough’s unsung heroes.

Scores of adults and children will be battling it out in the 14 categories on offer to take home awards.
One of the categories, for role model of the year, is being sponsored by South Tyneside College.
Dr Lindsey Whiterod, the South Shields college’s chief executive, says she is delighted to be involved.
She said: “The awards are a fantastic celebration of the people who make a real difference and whose achievements are exceptional.
“It rewards those whose inspirational attitude has positively impacted on their own lives and those of others, as well as on the borough as a whole.
“The awards exemplify all that is good about South Tyneside and those who make it a special place. There is much to celebrate.
“South Tyneside College plays an important role in the lives of many people, inspiring them to greater heights and opening doors through learning.
“Likewise, these awards provide an important focal point of achievement.
“Many of the college’s students prove themselves perfect role models. That is why I am delighted that we are supporting these awards by sponsoring the role model of the year category.
“I am sure the awards ceremony will be a wonderful occasion for all involved, and I wish all those who have entered the very best on the night and for the future.”
The other categories are greener South Tyneside, fundraiser of the year, sporting excellence, sports team of the year, community group of the year, child of courage, child of achievement, achieving excellence, young performer of the year, carer of the year, entrepreneur of the year, lifetime contribution and the judges’ special award.
The awards will culminate in a finals night at the Quality Hotel in Boldon Colliery on Thursday, June 25.
